My Favourite Podcasts – #1 - Squiggly Careers
If you aren’t already aware, the author of this blog is me, Anwen Bottois!
Through this blog, I share my thoughts on these themes, as well as my insights into the world of HR and leading People Teams, but this blog post and the next few will feel a little different.
You may be aware that since June 2022, I’ve been doing some long-term travel with my husband. We’ve been to many different countries, and it has been an incredible experience. We are now in the last few weeks before we return to the UK.
In those last few weeks, we are visiting Manila, Seoul, Busan, Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, and then it’s our last visit to Bangkok before flying home to the UK. I want to take some time out to just enjoy that time, so for this edition and the next two; I’m not doing my normal style of blog. Instead, I’m going to share with you three of my favourite podcasts.
All three podcasts are about the world of work, leadership, behaviours, performance and careers. These are the three podcasts that I engage with most for inspiration and often therapy! I find them good for my soul as they are all centred around people’s stories and experiences.
I’m starting with The Squiggly Careers Podcast from the fab team at Amazing If, headed up by Sarah Ellis and Helen Tupper.
The podcast has over 300 episodes and many 5* reviews, and there is a good reason for that, the series is great. The range of topics covered is so diverse that you will be able to find something to help you in an area you are either struggling with or want to enhance further.
Most of the episodes are 30-45 minutes long, which makes them perfect for a commute or walking the dog before you start your day. In the episodes, they share theories, best practices, insights and people’s stories, and there are always handy practical ideas for action.
You’ll be able to find the podcast on your usual podcast provider, but the easiest way to browse the topics covered is through their website.
If you want an idea of where to start, then I’d recommend starting with Episode 246 – How to accelerate your self-awareness.
In this episode, they mention the live events they were holding for their book launch; I went along to the one in Manchester (well, it was actually Salford) with a wonderful friend, which was a great event. As a result of attending, my friend and I have continued to use some of the techniques covered in the workshop section of that event – very powerful indeed.
I hope that you find this episode and others as useful as I have.
See you next week, when I’ll be sharing another podcast that I love.
